Doesnt count in politics IMO. And Palin was only picked because she was a woman, plain and simple. Its not any different for the thousands that WONT vote for him, rep/dem, because he is black.

He retired as a Captain...bout 1/2 way up the ranks for a navy officer...and that was in 81. IMO, if he was a good leader, he would've moved up further than that.

Re: GOP and Swift boat politics

Naval Academy graduate 1958
POW 1967-1973
Rehab in hospital 1973-74
Reinstated to flight status late 1974
Commanding officer 1976-early 1977
Navy Liason to US Senate 1977
The injuries he suffered as a POW plagued him, as he continually had poor annual physicals. That, plus the fact that he had never had a command at sea limited his possibility of any noteworthy advance in rank. He retired with 23 years service, which is pretty darn admirable from anyone.

Didn't say it wasn't admirable...but 6 grades in 23 years is nothing to write home to mommy about. Did you see him and Palin giving conflicting "facts" concerning the 200 million she asked for in earmarks this year alone?...One thing he seems to be good at is lying..

1st one- he graduated like 894 out of 899 i think
2nd-he commanded no one as a POW

and so he was a commanding officer for one year before going into the senate? I think he was mainly in the senate from then on, hes a good solider but not a great leader.

As I said before, I'm leaning toward McSame.....but when you point out his military career was cut short by health problems, what makes anyone think he can DO the job of president? It is pretty stressful.

1. It's hard to be promoted when you're a POW, and the time spent following to recover
2. Even if he graduated dead last from the academy, that's more than most on this board has done, militarily speaking, me included.
3. The physical requirements an officer needs are much more than what a president will need, as a president is not expected to actually be in battle. My 50 year old best friend, who is a Colonel in the Marines, is probably in better shape than anyone on here over the age of 21 ( and I am envious!). Once I asked him why, as a Colonel< he was still taking part in obstacle course training and hand-to-hand combat exercises. His reply? "I'm a Marine first, an officer second."

Take away his military career, he would still be up on Obama, who only received the nomination because he is black.

You need to re-type that line, it has been used so much that the lettering is wearing off. And you were the one that brought out that he had to quit the military YEARS ago because of his health. I doubt he has gotten healthier in his 70s.

Re: GOP and Swift boat politics

Some of you seem to be obsessed with trying to make it look look McCain would be more of Bush. Why not look at his reccord and see how he actually did vote?

And the next time you are laying flowers at B. HUSSEIN's feet why not ask him why he didn't care enough to vote at all?? If he saw so much he was against why didn't he stand up like a man and actually vote against something?? Why didn't he introduce bills to make changes?? That's what he was being paid to do.
